arXiv is an e-Print archive of research in physics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative biology, and nonlinear sciences.

ArXiv evolved as a quick way for scientists to find pre-prints of journal articles, freeing them from waiting for peer-review and publication to complete. Most scientists today work from a combination of pre-prints, published literature, books, and interaction with colleagues.
