CH 795C Solid State Chemistry
This course in solid state chemistry will primarily focus on the chemistry of crystalline systems. It is a seminar-type course in which significant student participation is expected. Principles of structure and characterization will be taught based on elementary solids, and concepts will be extended to molecular solids including molecular conductors and pharmaceutically relevant molecules. Fundamental understanding of the electronic structure of solids will be taught in order to explore structure/property relationships in electronic materials. Discussion of the reactivity of solids will provide the basis for understanding heterogeneous catalysis and separations.
