CH 434
From WolfWikis
The course CH 434 is the undergraduate Physical Chemistry laboratory.
It consist of a lecture on Tuesday at 11:45 am and a lab session 1:30 to 5:00 pm. There are currently three lab sessions: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday all given in Dabney 608.
The course consists of three phases:
- The first two weeks are dedicated to the application of simple statistics
- Data are provided in electronic form and the student processes them into a legible report
- The experiment phase consist of five experiments to be done in groups of two or three, all resulting in a written report.
- The available experiments are:
- Adiabatic compression of gases
- MDSC of polyols
- The measurement of an equilibrium constant by UV/VIS
- Bomb calorimetry
- Solution calorimetry
- The XRD pattern of a simple cubic compound
- The FTIR spectrum of HCl
- The available experiments are:
- The project phase
- Students are given literature information on a topic and told to go do better. The phase ends in a formal presentation of the scientific progress achieved in this time.
