Overview of Military Regime Circumstances

- Social and economic issues led to military regimes. Issues included worker wages, inflation, rural development, university politics, and military demands. Military insurgency erupted on September 11, 1973, with the overthrow of Salvador Allende as president. Pinochet was elected president in 1974 . While in power, he utilized a military regime to control the Chilean people. His military regime is noted for many human rights abuses.
