The Flu-Proofing Your Course: Frequently Asked Questions page (currently under construction) provides a question and answer format to issues raised because of the H1N1/course continuity situation.

This page also provides you with the opportunity to post any questions that you may have related to continuing your course if faced with a socially distancing event, such as the flu. Feel free to login and edit this wiki, posing your own questions and/or contribute to the responses with your ideas.

1. How can find more information about H1N1?

2. Does NC State have information about H1N1?

3. What do I do if I have to miss class because I am ill or a family member is ill?

  • Consider picking a "teaching buddy" who can fill in for you if necessary
  • Craft your syllabus with enough detail that a teaching assistant or colleague can fill in for you if necessary.
  • Have a back-up plan for each day of your class--special readings, online collaboration with other students, writing activities, special websites which explain the content in multiple ways, senior student tutoring via phone, etc
  • Use appropriate technology to support course continuity

4. What are the best ways to notify my students that class is canceled because I am ill?

  • Have a plan in place for:
    • Contacting your students and telling then where to find course information.

6. How can I keep my course on schedule if I am out one or more days?

  • Have a plan in place for utilizing TAs or faculty colleagues to temporarily support your course
  • Use technology to support your course, see the DELTAwire posts for ideas.

  • Plan for collecting assignments by TA's and other faculty
  • Use technology to support assignment submission (more specific information/suggestions forthcoming)

8. Are there alternative ways to grade students' assignments while I am out?

  • If possible, leverage TAs for grading, or ask a colleague to help as needed
