Explanation

All images displayed online should be compressed to a degree. You can greatly reduce the file size while not losing much quality.

Photo-like Images

Images that have lots of gradients or small differences in color should be compressed as JPG/JPEG files. If you compress images at 75% quality you won't notice much difference at all in the quality but the file size will be tremendously smaller. Using a quality rating between 50%-80% yields some of the best results for the file size.

Cartoony Images

If you image is built more with solid colors, more like a cartoon drawing, saving it in the GIF format will greatly reduce it's size.
