Action Items from Lean and Green conference (Wendy Laing and Deborah Porto
1. Consider IES sustainable efforts as an agency of NCSU: o Conduct carbon footprint at Quarterly Meetings Debbie - Ask Nate Smith to use complete o Solicit employee input for improving IES environmental performance, such as 4 x 10 hr days, etc. Wendy – discuss at 8/15 meeting – suggest forming IES team from different areas o Partner with existing efforts at NCSU Forgot to discuss this
2. Investigate the NIST Green Supplier Network o Train IES staff to provide services to NC organizations Debbie – confirm what makes us NIST qualified
3. Develop a Lean 100 for Environmental Professionals o Partner with US EPA, who is working on a pilot for this project Wendy – follow up with EPA o Consider a Green 100 for Lean Professionals ditto o Review IES lean projects that have resulted in an environmental improvement. 8/15 meeting follow up – second action item for team
4. Investigate business standards for “green” and “sustainability” Wendy – discuss with Charlie Parish to see if he is interested in doing.o Each industry has numerous standards; find some common concepts in these standards Ditto o www.sustainabilityratings.com has a draft standard ditto o Product design: cradle to cradle ditto o Walmart has implemented a sustainability scorecard for their suppliers. ditto
5. Develop IES site for Sustainability with numerous resources for Safety and Health, Energy, Environmental and upcoming Lean and Green concepts - start with a wiki and develop into a web site o Partner with NCDENR Department of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance
