Welcome to the Literacy Wiki!
This site is an ongoing project led by Dr. Chris Anson but created primarily by students enrolled in successive sections of ENG 455: Literacy in the United States" at North Carolina State University. The primary goal of the site is to serve as a repository of information about literacy, including references to works on literacy, links to resources, explanations of concepts, interesting research tidbits, narrative accounts (including those of the students), annotations or abstracts of interesting books, various visual artifacts, information in the news, and more. As the site continues to grow, more navigational options will appear, including alphabetized links and headings. For now, we encourage you to sample the material and learn, as we are, all about literacy, in all its varied and interesting forms and functions.
We should also point out that the course supporting this wiki involves a service-learning component. Students enrolled in the course tutor young children in after-school programs at various community centers. The tutoring is arranged through the help of the Communities in Schools of Wake County program.
Each of the main links below will take you to entries within that specific category. Some of the second-level pages are further subdivided into categories.
