Explanation

Meta data is used by various indexing applications (i.e. search engines, catalogs, databases) in determining what your page is about. For example, search engines can get a brief list of keywords or a description of your site form the meta data. In HTML the meta data is stored in the <head></head> section. Common types of meta data are:

  • keywords
  • description
  • author
  • copyright
