Overview of US-Cuba relations

From WolfWikis

Jump to: navigation, search

The relationship between the United States and Cuba has been strained for the past several decades. In 1959 the United States recognized Fidel Castro as leader of the new Cuban government. However, the relationship between the two countries declined as U.S. “properties were expropriated” and as Cuba moved toward a “one-party Marxist-Leninist system.” [1] The U.S. put an embargo on Cuba in 1960 and officially broke diplomatic relations the following January. In 1962 the tension between the two governments climaxed with the Bay of Pigs invasion in April and the Cuban Missile Crisis in October.
