PAMS reference style guide
From WolfWikis
Thanks for your interest in the editing this wiki. I encourage any student, researcher, or faculty member in the College of PAMS to assist with this process. The more community contribution it receives, the better tool it's going to become.
The wiki is maintained by Josh Wilson, NCSU librarian for physical and mathematical sciences. Please contact me if you have questions, comments, or suggestions.
Back to PAMS reference.
The Basic Rules
- This wiki is meant to be a guide to finding and using information resources in the physical and mathematical sciences. This includes (but isn't limited to): information about books, databases, journals, software, lab guides, web sites, conducting research, publishing, finding information, and using the library. All content that fits that description is welcome. All content that falls outside that description may be moved to other space.
- You do not need my permission to make changes. If you want to add to the wiki, do it. Your knowledge of the topics is your qualification. (Editing wolfwikis is restricted to NCSU affiliates, though.) Anyway, you can't break the wiki, because all versions are saved and I can simply revert to an older version.
- Alternatively, you are welcome to forward me any suggested changes you have. Don't hesitate to do so.
- Wikis exist to be edited. If you do not want your work edited in any way, please do not place it in the wiki. I will be editing any and all pages for content and to maintain a uniform style. Other users may also do so.
- Do not delete pages. If you see a page that you don't feel belongs here, please let me know about it and I'll take care of it.
Style Requests
Please adhere to the following style tips as best you can. These are merely suggestions. If you don't follow these rules, the worst thing that will happen to you is that I may one day make the changes for you. Worry about creating content first, style later. I'd rather see new pages that don't adhere to the style requests than no new pages.
- When creating new categories, append " (PAMS reference)". It's a bit verbose but I'm trying to stick with this rule since all wolfwikis share the same space, and this will keep information reference pages separated from more general subject categories. It's fine if the link TEXT omits this, but that should be the link DESTINATION and official name of the category, as in these examples:
- Add categories to pages. At minimum, put it with appropriate subject(s). You can also optionally define it as a database, guide, course, or book.
- Try to include at least one link back out, either to categories, referring pages, or the PAMS reference home. This makes navigation easier.
