Navigation on a wiki
Links
In general a blue link takes you to an existing page, a red one to the edit page of a non-existing one.
If you get somewhere you do not want to be, simply use the back button of your browser or click on one of the navigation links on the left panel.
Categories
At the bottom of you page there could (should) be one or more links to a category that the page belongs to. You can often find related pages by going to the category page. See tips\categories
Navigation panel
The Recent changes button on the left is usually the real front page of a user.
Search
Another way to get around is to use the search GO button. It may send you directly to the page you want if it exists. If it does not an invitation follows to create the page you asked for, but it may also yield a number of pages that may or may not be of interest. Pleas make sure you did not ask for the wrong page name before creating a new page.
There is a law of Murphy-Ellywa that says:
- Given enough time the same content will be written on different pages with slightly different titles.
Searching for categories, templates, images
If you type template:nav, category:CH or image:CH431_Image87.gif in search space the search button will take you there.
Toolbox
The toolbox contains a number of very useful items to get around. The What links here button is very useful to trace links in the opposite direction: back to pages that contain a blue link to where you are currently.
Upload file
This button allows you to upload pictures etc. and use them here see Tips\images
Special pages
There are number of interesting tools there. One that is very handy if you know the first few characters of your topic is the prefix list . If you give it therm it will list everything that begins with therm-.
