US Covert & Government Action

The U.S. government has chosen to take covert action numerous times in its history. Sometimes the decision is made out of desire to gain a tactical advantage over an adversary. Other times the U.S. government has simply kept things secret out of desire to avoid public scrutiny of their actions. This webpage uses the three examples below to illustrate how U.S. covert actions have shaped U.S.-Latin-American relations in the past century.
