Contribute your opinions to the following questions:
1) How does the way content is presented affect the way people relate to that content?
Content that looks good seems more authoritative. People will spend more time with content that is presented in the way they like best. If it is clear, it will be easier to understand and remember.
If the content implies or suggests interaction/feedback and affords the user an opportunity to participate, then the user will be compelled to interject their own content based on their own knowledge and experience.
It is important that content be presented in a contextually meaningful and personally/socially relevant manner. People construct knowledge by assimilating it into existing frameworks, or by accomodating (changing) existing knowlegde structures. If content is perceived to be irrelevant or not meaningful, then it is less likely for it to become part of an individual's schemata.
2) What attributes do you see in wikis that are not in e-mail?
It is viewable by many people at the same time.
I presume all entries remain visible at the same time, so you don't have to look through many email messages to follow the discussion.
Errors or mistakes in content can be corrected, and are not perpetuated by emails.
They can be edited by multiple people at different times...and I can change your entry
The ability to collaborate on a singular topic/endeavor and display those changes for others to view/edit.
3) What is it about Facebook that might make it so popular with students? It seems very social, much like chatting with your friends. It is more than social but a means of creating a vast "image" amongst many and if you don't have one it is not cool.
The social interaction and connectivity with peers, friends, and faculty members.
I think the ability to see a friend's friends and friends in common is a reason for its popularity.
4) What characteristics of del.icio.us are shared with other Web 2.0 technologies?
The ability to share information and web content to others.
