The wiki software makes in relatively easy to insert a picture into the text

Uploading

The Upload file button on left panel allows you to upload a file (e.g. a picture) to the Wolfwiki. The button generates a pop up menu with a browse button that allows you to find what you need on your own PC.

Proper naming

You need to create an alias file name in the option below it. This is the name that the file will be known by in the wiki system. Please make sure to specify e.g. to what course or topic it belongs, e.g. by prefixing the course number or your initials or so. If everyone uses 'Image1.jpg' we get files being overwritten and such.

Copyrights and such

The legal problems of copy rights are particularly important when it comes to images. On wikipedia this has been a long, long process of concern and there all pictures must be specified in term of what their legal status is. If this is not possible the image has to be removed. Here at Wolfwiki we have not really established ground rules yet, but this is a matter of time (imho).

Please at least indicate where an image was taken from, if you did not create it yourself.

It is very easy to steal an image from the web, Just right click on an image and say save as Congratulations!! You are now a thief.... Make sure you are not. It does not matter whether the site specifies copy right or not. Only if it specifies that the image public domain or GNU/FDL can you use it without breaking a law. All images on wikipedia can be used but we probably have to specify here too what their status is (i.e. copy their status from the wiki page).

Using the image

To display the image on the page, use this syntax:

IMPORTANT: Descriptive text after the "|" ('pipe') symbol is called the "alt text" and is required by NCSU regulations regarding web accessibility. Section 508 of the Workforce Rehabilitation Act of 1973 specifies that "A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via 'alt', 'longdesc', or in element content)."

You can also add add a frame around your image, and center it:

Image of Small Purple-Fringed Orchid
Image of Small Purple-Fringed Orchid

...or place it on the right:

Image of Small Purple-Fringed Orchid
Image of Small Purple-Fringed Orchid

If you want to create a thumbnail you can use something like:

Image of Orchid
Image of Orchid

The 50 px statement scales the picture. This works best for .svg graphics

For further details, see Extended image syntax on the MediaWiki web site.

Text usually wraps around the image. If that is not desired try adding a break statement like<br clear="all">
